DIY Herbal Healing Salve

DIY Herbal Wound Healing Salve Recipe

Healing salve sounds so nice doesn’t it?

Below is a recipe I posted on my Facebook and Instagram accounts but felt it definitely deserved to be on the Blog as well!

This salve can be used for topical application to minor wounds, insect bites, burns, rashes and more. If you are sensitive to any of the herbs in this recipe then please check with your physician before making and applying this to your skin.

Otherwise, you should find this salve amazing. It is antimicrobial, antifungal, soothing, astringent and pretty much everything you want on your skin when it needs some healing and protection.

I am going to break down each individual component of the salve to give you a better understanding of how it all comes together in the end to form a beautiful healing topical solution that will be a staple in your medicine cabinet for years to come!

🌼𝗜𝗡𝗙𝗨𝗦𝗘𝗗 𝗢𝗜𝗟𝗦
𝐋𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐢𝐥- For a salve or topical use the benefits of lavender are …. it is antimicrobial, antispasmodic (relieves muscle spasm) and as an added bonus it soothes anxiety.
𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐢𝐥- Not to be taken internally. The benefits of comfrey infused in an oil are … it is astringent(causes contraction of skin cells), anti inflammatory and it heals wounds, bones and bruises.

1. In a Bain Marie setup (a bowl or pan placed over another pan filled with 1/4 water) heat the wax.
2. Once the wax is almost completely melted, pour in your strained oil infusions and stir continuously until all of the contents are evenly melted.
𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗘: do not overheat contents as that kills a lot of the nutritional components we need.
3. Remove bowl/pan from heat and add in your essential oils. Stir or whisk to combine.
4. Pour salve into jars or tins immediately(see products links library on my blog for my recommendations)
𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗘: Do NOT get water into anything. This is a 100% anhydrous solution and water will cause issues.

Solar Infusions

This is my favorite infusion method. Some call this style the “folk method”.

I fill my mason jar 1/2 (sometimes a little more) with herb(s) and then pour my carrier oil of choice to almost fill the jar. You want to leave a little space up top for herb swelling.  If you know the plants you are infusing will not swell, then you can fill completely to the top.

Make sure there is NO water in the container and that it is sealed tightly!

Place on a sunny windowsill and allow to infuse 4-6 weeks.

And if you are thinking it, no, going longer than 6 weeks is not better because the carrier oil will start to degrade. I myself used to think, “the longer the better!” But boy was I wrong.

Until Next Time!

Sincerely,

Chelsea
